Lower Cholesterol With Supplements
Have been taking 1500mg niacin to supplement lipitor, now my cholesterol is 57. Do I have a problem?
Have biannual blood tests, have been taking 40mg lipitor for several years, cholesterol been fairly good in 160-140 range. Started taking 1500mg niacin to supplement the lipitor and began improvement for cholesterol and LDL. Last three tests cholesterol read 169, 86, and 57. LDL dropped slightly until last test when it recorded 16, a dramatic reduction from the 40-50 range. HDL not great, decreasing from 50 range to 34 in last test. My question: Should I be concerned with the low 57 cholesterol reading? My doctor is not concerned, only amazed at my low reading.
Yes, thats too low. Does the doctor know you take niacin with the lipitor? If not, tell him. The two are too much together. Heres info on the low cholesterol
